Ratings: ‘Duck Dynasty’ finale draws huge numbers, beats ‘X Factor,’ ‘Survivor’
Did you ever see this coming? “Duck Dynasty” has not only become a hit for A&E, but it is now one of the top shows on all of Wednesday night. The translation here is pretty simple: you are probably going to see plenty more of the famous Robertson clan moving forward.
Overall, the show at 10:00 p.m. Eastern drew a stunning 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, a series high that also topped new episodes of both “Survivor” and “The X Factor,” as well as over 6 million viewers. The show doubled the total for “American Horror Story: Asylum” in the demo, and pretty much has now secured the title of “best show that no one talks about.”
So what is making the Robertsons such a success? Our guess is that it is completely different than anything else on TV, and in many ways the anti-reality show. The reason we nominated it for Best New Show this year is simple: it doesn’t focus on drama, cursing, or exploitation, and it is instead proof that there is a way for there to be family entertainment that also still feels edgy, topical, and causes belly laughs every few minutes. Basically, they are the modern-day Beverly Hillbillies even though they still live in Louisiana.
We have constantly been concerned over the years that the fame of this show would eventually go to the Robertsons’ heads, but thus far, they still remain the same humble people that they always have been. It probably helps that so many of them do not appear to be in this for the fame, and they stay out of the limelight for the most part in their everyday lives.
Are you stunned by these huge numbers, and why do you think that “Duck Dynasty” has become so popular? If you want to view some more “Duck Dynasty” new, you can do so here.
