‘Army Wives’ season 7: Torrey DeVitto on board (with ‘Pretty Little Liars’ talk)

Torrey DeVittoThere is some big news breaking when it comes to Lifetime’s hit series “Army Wives” Friday: following the exit of original star Kim Delaney, we know now that none other than Torrey DeVitto of “The Vampire Diaries” and “Pretty Little Liars” is coming on board as one of the new series regulars.

Before we delve too deep into what this could mean for some of DeVitto’s other shows, let’s explain that she is playing here the part of an ex-Army Airborne officer who ends up becoming married to a Staff Sargent and also works as a truck driver. She joins Ashanti as new additions to the show, which was looking to desperately shake up much of its cast after financial considerations and creative tweaks came into effect following season 6.

Now, let’s get to asking some other questions … beginning with just what this news could end up meaning for those of you out there who are major fans of DeVitto’s other shows. It surely means that we will see less of Melissa Hastings on “Pretty Little Liars” and Dr. Fell on “The Vampire Diaries.” However, it is also fair to say that her larger stories on the two shows are over. We assume that she will still show up in some shape or form, but will likely see her role limited to just a guest-starring episode from time to time. All in all, this is a consequence to her not getting a promotion on either of the other shows: she finds work elsewhere, even if it means a little less time working with husband Paul Wesley.

What do you think about these castings? We want to hear some of your thoughts below, and you can read some more news when it comes to how Delaney will be written off the show here.
