National Dog Show 2012: Wire fox terrier wins for second straight year
The National Dog Show has become a Thanksgiving tradition for all the right reasons: the beautiful animals, the ridiculous names the owners give them, and the constant Christmas commercials that air throughout. It’s the perfect show to watch while getting the table together for a turkey dinner, if for no other reason than that you can pop in, ooh and ah over a few breeds, and then make sure you’re not burning the bird in the oven.
The other entertaining aspect of watching the show is picking a favorite, and then watching them progress through the show in order to see if they take home the grand prize. For us this year, it was the magnificent Great Dane that captured our heart: it was one of the most enormous dogs we’ve ever seen on this show, but there was such a regal air about it that it still felt sophisticated to the umpteenth degree. It ended up winnings its group, only to later advance to the Best in Show Competition alongside the likes of an affenpinscher, a wire fox terrier (the same breed that won the show last year), and many others.
In the end, though, the victory once again went to the wire fox terrier, who was also handled by the same winner as last year. In the end, this is a little bit of an uneventful end for the show this year, mostly because every casual viewer at home likes to see variety. Of course, we are also not trainers or dog experts, and clearly from the standpoint of the judge the top dog was victorious.
