‘The Amazing Race 21’ review: James & Abba face a massive cab dilemma

“The Amazing Race 21” had been lucky thus far before Sunday night’s new episode in not having a huge divide between any of the teams, but the ol’ curse known as airplane delays came roaring back here, and at first forced Abbie & Ryan and Josh & Brent into a huge delay behind the other teams.

What makes us wonder, though, is why all of the teams ended up picking so many different flights to begin with? Were they not communicating, or were some flights just full? The only reason that we wonder this is that the two teams who suffered a delay and a missed connection did so without even taking the fastest flight to begin with. This honor instead went to Jaymes & James and James & Abba, though neither team managed to actually do enough to get the win at the end of the leg.

Instead, we had another strong leg from Trey & Lexie, who are not only clicking, but were the only team that conquered the detour challenge involving finding books written in the Russian Cyrillic language. The Chippendales ended up coming in second, and then Natalie & Nadiya made up a pretty decent amount of time in route to finishing third.

However, this is where things get really strange. James & Abba had possibly the worst leg ever here. They switched the detour, and were already in fourth place when they made a mistake of getting caught up in a challenge while a taxi driver was sitting with their bags. This was a frustrating cliffhanger ending, but also a pretty awesome one. Will the guys find the cab driver? They probably do have some time to make it happen, but finding one cab in the midst of thousands in Moscow is not an easy task.

We do want to give a shout-out to Abbie & Ryan here: despite all of the proclamations by the “twinnies” that they are jerks, they actually did a pretty nice thing in wait for Josh & Brent, who are really far behind here and may still finish in last, even with what is going on with James & Abba.

What do you think about this cliffhanger ending this week? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below.
