‘Jersey Shore’ season 6: Snooki and the gang recover
Last week, we commented that “Jersey Shore” season 6 was almost awkward to watch thanks to the aftermath from Hurricane Sandy tearing through the entire state of New Jersey, and the poor ratings for the show seemed to reflect that. Was the show already on the way down long before that? Sure, but that in many ways came across like the final nail in the coffin for a franchise that has lasted far longer than many expected.
However, the good news now is that the adventures of Snooki, Pauly D, and the rest of the crew have actually recovered, and the ratings are up from the week before. Overall, this episode drew a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is up from its previous performance and gave it the top cable show for the night outside of sports. In addition to that, “Jersey Shore” also garnered nearly three million viewers.
So why does all of this matter for a show that is in its final season? It’s mostly because the future of “Snooki & JWoww” on the network depends on it. The spin-off show has already been renewed for a second season, and the ratings are inevitably going to drop for it given how they have for everything else so far. If this show starts to fall below a 1.0 rating early next year, than we could start to have to think about a world at MTV that does not have Snooki as apart of it. (We shudder at the thought!)
Do you think that Snooki giving birth will keep “Snooki & JWoww” season 2 popular, or are we nearing the end of anything and everything related to “Jersey Shore” as we know it?
