Ratings: Miley Cyrus, ‘Two and a Half Men’ help slay ‘The Voice’
For the first time all season, a show actually managed to beat an episode of “The Voice” in the 18-49 demographic, and unsurprisingly it was the same show that destroyed another beast in “American Idol” earlier this year: “The Big Bang Theory.” Despite having more competition than ever, and also being a show that is seemingly DVR-friendly, the nerdy comedy still came out on top Thursday with a 5.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Meanwhile, “The Voice” brought in a season-low 3.0 for their first results show of the season, and “The X Factor” was even lower with a 2.3.
Another reason for these lower ratings for these singing shows may have been Miley Cyrus, who once again pushed “Two and a Half Men” past a 4.0 rating for the second time this season. This was the sole good news for CBS this week, as “Grey’s Anatomy” (3.2) handily beat “Person of Interest” (2.9), and “Elementary” (2.2) dropped to a new series low.
Over on ABC, “Last Resort” was lucky enough to actually rise this week to a 1.4 rating, though this will probably not save it from cancellation down the road. The same goes for “Beauty and the Beast,” which lost half of its “Vampire Diaries” lead-in with only a 0.7 (which could be adjusted down in the finals, as it has happened before). The other loser here was “Glee” (2.4), which at least kept most of its viewership despite all of the people claiming that they were going to stop watching after Finn and Rachel and some of the show’s other couples broke up.
Currently, the most surprising winner of the night is “The Office,” who managed to recover from some weak ratings (thanks largely to its own lead-in) en route to scoring a 2.5 rating. “Parks and Recreation” also was up to a 1.8.
