Ratings: ‘Arrow,’ ‘Supernatural’ not hurt at all by ‘The Voice’

For Wednesday night’s television ratings, we all learned a valuable lesson: singing competitions have no impact on superheroes or anything “Supernatural.” As a matter of fact, they could be an asset.

On week after Halloween night potentially led to their weakest audiences since the season premieres, both “Arrow” and “Supernatural” recovered fully Wednesday to provide The CW yet again with a stellar Wednesday lineup even against both “The X Factor” (which disappointed again with a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic) and “The Voice” (which won the night with a 3.7 that marks a sizable decrease from its normal timeslot). “Arrow” tied its season high (and its premiere number) with a 1.3 rating, while “Supernatural” did the same thing with a 1.0.

However, these were not the only shows that scored some interesting gains this week. Thanks possibly in part to some of the best post-merge gameplay we have seen on the show in some time, “Survivor: Philippines” rose up this week to a 2.7 that was just enough to beat Simon Cowell and company, while everything on ABC’s lineup was higher than where it was last week. The biggest winner here was “Nashville,” which is in more comfortable territory with a 2.0 than it would have been otherwise.

The final ratings gainer is no real surprise at all. Thanks to having “The Voice” as a lead-in, “Chicago Fire” scored easily its best audience yet in a 2.3 rating and seven million viewers. For NBC, the obvious hope here is that in pairing the show up alongside a hit, there will be a boost that will last a while longer now that more people know what the fireman drama is really all about.
