‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley will clash

“The Vampire Diaries” has had one recurring theme through all four of its seasons so far: a love triangle, and the awkward tension that comes along with it. Of course, we are talking about here what is going on with Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley), and Elena (Nina Dobrev). While in the first two seasons Elena was as firm as firm could be in the camp of wanting to be with Stefan, something rather fascinating has happened ever since: her feelings have started to shift slightly. During season 3, the two grew closer and even kissed while Stefan was going through his “ripper” phase. Meanwhile, Damon is now working as Elena’s de facto vampire mentor is allowing them to spend plenty of time together.

When you consider all of this, plus Elena’s heightened emotions and newfound thirst to embrace her darker side, there is really one thing that you know is going to happen here soon: a showdown. According to a new report from E! News, there is going to be a major clash coming during the sixth episode of this season, and these three characters are going to be front and center for it.

We can really see this fight coming a mile away: Damon and Stefan are going to be squabbling over whether or Damon is getting too close to her, and Elena will probably be forced to eventually pick a side yet again. The twist here? Back before she was a vampire, it was pretty clear that Stefan was her guy. Now that Elena is feeling different things and knowing just how Damon feels, she could be much more conflicted.
