‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Paul Wesley and the holidays

“The Vampire Diaries” season 4 is not all doom and gloom; after all, the cast will be getting into the holiday spirit a little bit later this year! The ninth episode of the season, and presumably the last one before the show goes on hiatus until the new year, is entitled “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” and it suggests that we will be seeing some of our favorite characters celebrating the spirit of Christmas.

Unfortunately, the official synopsis released by The CW for the episode also suggests that some characters will still have violence on their minds, and there are some surprising story pairings (Caroline and Stefan, Elena and Damon) to go along with it:

“As a Winter Wonderland-themed party fills the streets of Mystic Falls, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) find themselves at odds with Tyler (Michael Trevino) over his plans for Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his hybrids. When Caroline proposes a solution to their problem, Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) finds a dramatic way to make it clear that she is not on board. Later, Klaus makes a discovery that leads to chaos and violence. Meanwhile, Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon retreat to the Gilbert Lake House to help Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) conquer some dangerous inner demons with the help of Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Professor Shane (guest star David Alpay), who reveals a piece of ancient history that leaves them all speechless.”

When it comes to Stefan spending more time with Caroline, the obvious explanation here is what we heard before this season even started: these two are going to develop more of a friendship. As for Elena and Damon, this must be a continuation of their bonding session that they first had at the frat party, where Ian Somerhalder’s character tried his best to teach her the natural ways of the vampire (which almost led to her sucking a man dry).

So what is Tyler really wanting to do to Klaus … and is Caroline going to protest it so that the Original hybrid can stay alive? There are so many questions at this point, and so few answers. Hopefully, this will change as we inch ever closer to the air date.
