‘Arrow’ spoilers: Is Oliver Queen about to meet his biggest match yet?

If there is one criticism you can make about a show in “Arrow” that has had a pretty stellar freshman run so far, it is that most of its episodes thus far have felt more like a procedural than a comic book telling a lengthy story. Every week, there is a person on Oliver Queen’s list, and he finds a way to take them out so that Starling City can be that much more secure.

However, some of that is going to be changing courtesy of a character who is currently being described as a “Big Bad” in the same way as Trinity on “Dexter,” Damon Pope on “Sons of Anarchy,” or many other evildoers from other shows that turn up for a handful of episodes before they either meet their maker or depart the series for whatever reason. According to TVLine, the show is getting set to introduce a character in early 2013 who is their version of Vertigo in that he will be distributing a drug throughout the city, and causing more problems for Oliver to solve than we can really even count.

The twist here? The drug will be known as Vertigo, and the character is being renamed for the series. While we’ve heard countless complaints about the changes from the comic book, we’re happy to have them creating a slightly different universe here so long as it is done well.

So far this season, we have met some popular characters from the comic including Deadshot and China White, and some more, including Firefly and the Huntress, are coming up a little bit later this season. The show is thankfully not hesitating at all when it comes to bringing on board memorable villains, and this is just the latest example of that.

What do you think about the twist being put on Vertigo?
