Election 2012: ‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 supersedes election season (video)
As we posted earlier in the day, our goal for this key election day in America is not necessarily to tell you how to vote or endorse a candidate, but to have a little bit of fun with the world of politics from a TV angle. With that in mind, we have a rather hilarious new video (via BuzzFeed) that really brings to us the controversy and debate of elections while at the same time the awesomeness that is “Game of Thrones.”
Even months before season 3 debuts on HBO, this video still makes it appear as though Westeros is all people on the street can talk about, whether it is the philosophy of Ned Stark before his death (spoiler alert?) to how King Joffrey does not drink. We do wonder whether or not all of these people involved in this video are real “Game of Thrones” fans thanks in part to the pronounciation of “Baratheon” by one person who was interviewed, but it does not take away from the joke here that the George R.R. Martin adaptation is suddenly more interesting than Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Plus, there’s a great “Breaking Bad” reference thrown in here for good measure.
While voting takes place across America Tuesday, “Game of Thrones” season 3 production continues overseas, especially as filming crews look to place their focus solely on Iceland. This is the final destination for showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss this season, and following the completion of filming here in a few weeks, the focus will (pending re-shoots) turn to getting into the editing and allowing post-production to do their thing.
