How about this for incredible Grey’s Anatomy season 16 casting news? When the series returns in 2020, you won’t have to wait too long to see a major role from Sarah Rafferty.
According to a new report from TVLine, the former Suits star is returning to TV in a recurring role starting on the January 30 episode. The character’s name is Suzanne, and she is described as “a patient who comes in to Grey Sloan for a routine procedure, but develops puzzling complications that stump Bailey and DeLuca.” This should be a very different role than who Rafferty played in Donna Paulsen, someone who operated mostly from a place of strength. Given the mysterious illness that Suzanne will be battling, it’s fair to question how much she will be motivated by fear and/or vulnerability.

Judging from a first-look photo of Sarah on the show below (via the aforementioned website), we’re left to also assume that Suzanne has a family around her. The positive thing that comes from this is that it will enable the character to have a rather wonderful support system. However, the less-than-positive thing that comes from this is that it may be harder for her to express some of her own fears publicly. She may not want to show kids how fearful she is, since that will, in turn, impact them greatly.
No matter how this role pans out, it’s fair to be immensely excited for what’s going to be coming up here. Rafferty is the first big-name Grey’s Anatomy casting in the new year, and we’re thrilled that there isn’t a long layoff for her when it comes to acting gigs.
