Let’s go ahead and get the bad news out of the way right now — there is no new episode of The Rookie airing tonight. To go along with that, there are no new episodes airing for several more weeks still. This is a series that, at the moment, is forcing us to wait — which is hardly our favorite thing to do — until Sunday, February 23. Why do this? It’s because the network doesn’t want to show anything else off until after the Oscars air and, while we understand that, it doesn’t make it any less frustrating, either, when you consider the cliffhanger.
Consider what happened in the closing minutes of the fall finale, as the life of one Lucy Chen was put into grave danger. It’s a hard pill to swallow, especially the way in which it happened and the fear she seems to have in the promo. Just because someone is a cop, that doesn’t make them immune to feeling terrified. They still worried about their own lfie and the future, and we cannot say that we’re surprised by that in the slightest.
So as for what else is going to be coming up, we imagine an all-hands-on-deck rescue mission. Remember this, though — it didn’t seem at the end of last season like Bradford had any hope at all. Because of that, we want to have hope for Lucy, as well. We do feel like this is a mystery that will be resolved fairly soon in the new year and then after that, the writers can then move into a wide array of other subjects. There is a lot of great stuff to take on, both in terms of the characters’ work lives and also their relationships.
