His Dark Materials episode 8 (finale) spoilers: The cost of Lyra’s choices

Next week on His Dark Materials episode 8, we’re reaching the end of the road — the big finale is here! That is a cause for some great excitement, but also some tremendous anxiety. After all, once this episode concludes, we’ll be left to think about and sift through the aftermath for the better part of the next several months.

What we know entering the finale is this: Lyra’s going to have some enormous decisions to make. These are ones that could inform the remainder of her journey, and also whatever her relationship is going to be with her father Asriel. She hasn’t even had a lot of time to spend with him, and that’s going to be another big part of this equation, as well. What will it be like when a lot of the metaphorical cards are laid out on the table?

Below, CarterMatt has the full His Dark Materials episode 8 synopsis with some more news as to what’s coming up:

As the Magisterium closes in, Lyra learns more about Asriel’s rebellion. But her assistance to him comes at great personal cost.

In the end, it sounds on the basis of this and this alone that Lyra is not going to get a particularly-happy ending at the end of this season. This shouldn’t be TOO much of a surprise to many, largely because this is not all that happy of a show by and large. We think there could be peace in the end, but it’s going to take a long time in order to see the story get there. We just need something to cling to through the hiatus, whether it be hope for Lyra, hope for the Gyptians, or just some more shows of some of the lighthearted Daemons that help to balance this series out a little bit further.
