Is David Strathairn leaving The Expanse after season 4 finale?

Is David Strathairn leaving The Expanse, and is his character of Klaes Ashford dead? Within this article, we come bearing more news on that. (We just wish it was better news.)

We suppose that, in theory, Ashford is still alive when Marco and his son jettison him out into space in the closing minutes of the season 4 finale. Yet, it’s going to be hard for anyone to find him in time to do anything. The key implication here is that this character is gone, and we’re going to say goodbye to someone we’ve come to really enjoy watching these past couple of seasons.

One of the things that is so interesting now is looking at Ashford’s full arc of the season and charting both when/how things could have gone differently. Think about it like this — it was certainly possible that he could have offed Naomi’s ex Marco prior to all of the other Belter leaders came to a vote on it. There may have been other ramifications there, but perhaps he would be now alive. Meanwhile, it’s also possible that things could have changed had Drummer opted to go on the mission with him at the end.

None of this does matter now, though, as Drummer is seemingly gone — though it was a rather-cool send-off watching him sing one last time as he saw himself drifting off into the oblivion of space. It’s a hard way to see the character go, but insofar as an ending goes, we imagine that it does make sense for him to have a reflective exit. Marco and his son now have eradicated one threat, and all signs point towards Marco being one of the most notable villains entering season 5. We’re also anticipating Drummer having an emotional reaction to his farewell; the two did not always have a great bond, but that changed over the second half of season 3 when she was willing to sacrifice herself for the greater cause.
