Golden Globes 2020 snubs: Outlander, Sam Heughan, When They See Us

Outlander season 4

The 2020 Golden Globes nominations were first unveiled this morning, and there were a number of things to be excited about. After all, we saw a number of great shows nominated, and also some fantastic actors including Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, and Jodie Comer.

Yet, there are snubs with every single award-show out there, and there are certainly some notable snubs here, as well. Below, you can see some of the ones that first caught our eye this morning when the nominations first came out.

Outlander, Sam Heughan, and Caitriona Balfe – We know they were longshots given the limited number of episodes in 2019, but for Sam in particular this feels like the umpteenth year he’s been ignored. At least we’ve seen Balfe and the series itself get some love over the years.

Game of Thrones – Given the amount of Emmy love for the HBO epic, it’s surprising that it failed to receive a Drama Series nod — though the end was polarizing.

This Is Us and its cast – This was really the only hope that network TV had of getting some serious love! There are some other great performances out there, including Michael Sheen on Prodigal Son, James Spader on The Blacklist, and Viola Davis on How to Get Away with Murder, but we thought that Sterling K. Brown and Mandy Moore had some serious chances.

When They See Us – This was one of the buzziest programs of the year, and yet it didn’t get any love despite getting plenty of love from the Emmys. Consider this one truly shocking.

Regina King – She’s been dominating on Watchmen, and we thought that a nomination was going to be a near-lock in the Drama Series category.

Schitt’s Creek – It’s become somewhat of a critical darling near the end of its run — yet, that’s not true for the Globes.

The Good Place – We could go ahead and throw “all of network TV” in here when you stop and think about it. What happened to make the Globes hate the very network that they’re broadcast on?

In general, we think the nominations this year are reflective of some of host Ricky Gervais’ prior criticism of the show — they often look for who they perceive to be some of the biggest stars.

What do you think were the biggest snubs of the Golden Globes this year?

Be sure to share in the comments, and stick around for some more news.
