Doctor Who season 12 spoilers: Expect the biggest premiere ever

We know that we’ve been all forced to wait a really long time in order to check out Doctor Who season 12, but in the end, it could prove to be worthwhile! We are hearing, after all, that the premiere will be one of the biggest ones we’ve seen to date. This January 1 episode is entitled “Spyfall” (reference to Skyfall?), it’s a two-parter, and it will throw The Doctor and her companions into all sorts of peril.

This is an episode that will have a lot of action in it, according to what show executive producer Chris Chibnall tells Deadline. Yet, there is also going to be some other stuff wedged in there as well:

“Episode one is probably the biggest episode of Doctor Who we’ve done, or has been done, I would imagine. Physically, there’s a lot of stunts, there’s a lot of locations, it’s a globe-trotting action thriller … But you don’t want to lose sight of character and intimacy and emotion. You can’t do everything at 11.”

We’ve already heard that, in general, there are meant to be more two-parters in the upcoming season and the success of season 11 has, at least in some ways, emboldened everyone to take some big risks. We know that the season may have been polarizing for some, but it did still perform well all over the world and there’s a lot in the trailer that suggests that the classic sense of Doctor Who imagination is going to be alive and well moving into the upcoming batch of episodes.

To us, the most important thing that this season can do is give us a little bit more insight on the supporting cast. If there are going to be three different companions, you need to embrace it and run with it! Don’t give any of them the short end of the stick insofar as the story goes.
