For a good while now, the majority of the guesses around the Butterfly have identified that it could be Michelle Williams under there. We didn’t see it at first, but as the competition continued, it all started to make a little bit more sense. The singer, one third of Destiny’s Child, delivered some pretty awesome performances for most of the season … but we also wonder how in the world she went home. Sure, we think that the Thingamajig is good, but it feels like a big part of his longevity has to do with the element of surprise. However the voting goes, we think there’s something to keeping people around who the judges aren’t guessing. We think that we’ve figured out the identity of the Thingamajig … but we’re also a much bigger fan of basketball than anyone on that panel is.
Williams told Nick Cannon and the rest of the panel tonight that she found The Masked Singer to be a great source of self-confidence for her. That is one of the best things about this show. It’s really not meant to slam any of the contestants or make them feel like they’re not good singers. Instead, it’s geared more towards trying to empower them and give them a reason to keep performing after the fact. It’s pure fun, and contestants who really embrace their characters have a chance to really carry that forward into everything else that they do.
We’ll be back later in order to discuss further the second reveal on The Masked Singer tonight.
