There are a number of different things that leave us excited about Doctor Who season 12, including a welcome dose of nostalgia. We know that the Judoon are going to have a role to play, and the Cybermen have already been confirmed, as well.

We’ve said this for some time now and it remains true today — Cybermen are some of the best monsters within the entire Doctor Who world. There is something so entertaining about watching them in action … and they were also terrifying. They have a determination about them that is pretty hard to ignore.

Speaking via the Radio Times, show executive producer Chris Chibnall noted that it is this said determination that made him so excited to bring in the Cybermen in the first place:

Cybermen feel like an important part of the rogues’ gallery and we’ve done something slightly different with them this year–there was a particular story I wanted to tell. They’re just relentless, the Cybermen. They just don’t stop.

As we get closer to the premiere of Doctor Who season 12, we hope we get a little more insight into what that means. After all, we want some specific reasons to be excited about the Cybermen! Granted, we do still welcome some surprises and we wonder, in some ways, if what we’re going to see with them is similar to Chibnall’s depiction of Daleks. He did bring the characters back in the New Year’s Special, but chose to bring a different angle that was controversial to some but popular with others.

Doctor Who season 12 is going to premiere on January 1 — the good news is that you won’t be waiting TOO long in order to see what’s next!
