The Good Doctor season 3 spoilers: What’s next for Shaun, Lea?

Following last night’s new episode of The Good Doctor season 3, we know that there are going to be questions aplenty regarding Shaun Murphy. Take, for example, whether he has greater feelings for Lea than he does Carly.

At this very moment, we don’t really think that it’s fair to compare one-for-one Shaun’s situation with Lea at the end of the winter finale to his lack of physical intimacy with Carly. It was an extremely vulnerable moment for him following his father’s death, and it also wasn’t a situation where he felt any pressure to be intimate. It wasn’t a moment that was romantic in context. It was just about one person helping another.

Yet, this is going to be something that does play out emotionally when the show returns in the new year –for some more thoughts on that, here is just a sample of what executive producer David Shore had to say on the matter to TVLine:

We see Shaun in a very vulnerable moment, a very different moment, and in a very nonsexual situation, but we see him achieve a level of physical intimacy with Lea that he wasn’t able to achieve with Carly, so as we go forward, we explore the significance of that.

It makes sense for this to be played out a little bit, just as it would also make some sense to see Carly’s reaction to Shaun’s journey with Lea and Dr. Glassman explored. He’s never been someone to hold anything back following his experiences, and we think he’ll be open about how Lea comforted him. Carly may be glad that he had some comfort, but it’s also going to be hard on her, giving that it wasn’t her who supplied said comforting. Expect a whole lot of emotions to play out over the weeks to come.
