Watchmen episode 8 promo: The Dr. Manhattan aftermath

Watchmen

Moving into Watchmen episode 8, we’re at the point that everyone was anticipating with this show. We knew that eventually. Dr. Manhattan was going to take his role in the story. Yet, we didn’t quite think it would work out quite like this.

How was the character hiding in plain sight? How did we not know this is where things would be going? Learning that Cal was a vessel-of-sorts for the character was one of the most dramatic secrets imaginable, and the same goes for understanding further the history that exists there with Angela. This is a twisted narrative that has somehow only become more twisted and unique and connected with each passing week.

The fact that the episode 7 synopsis is so short tells you how much HBO feels like they have to hide: “Angela’s mysterious past in Vietnam is at last revealed.” That’s it. That’s all we’re getting. We’re at least grateful for all of the various twists we’ve got in advance!

With there only being so few episodes to go until the end of the season, learning about Angela’s past is obviously going to be key to understanding the future. It’s been hinted and toyed around with since the start of the season, and there are obviously more connections that we’re going to learn about between her and the famous/infamous doctor. Basically, this gives Regina King more opportunities to have stellar material as we inch closer and closer to awards season.

Even without seeing the end of the season now, we can say this with confidence: Watchmen is killing it. There’s a reason why we consider this to be one of the best new shows of the year — it’s even in the CarterMatt Awards poll on that very subject!
