Next week, Supergirl season 5 episode 9 is going to come on the air, and it’s far from your normal hour of TV. This is the beginning of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, one that could change the Arrowverse as we know it forever.
To go along with this being an enormous crossover event, we should note that if also comes with a few times changes. In this particular case, know that Supergirl will be jumping forward an hour and airing next week (December 8) at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. Following that, Batwoman will air at the same time Monday and The Flash then on Tuesday. Following that, Crisis on Infinite Earths will go on hiatus and then return in the new year with two more episodes set around Arrow and then also Legends of Tomorrow. It’s going to be a crazy experience like no other.

With their worlds in imminent danger, the superheroes suit up for battle while J’onn (David Harewood) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) recruit Lena (Katie McGrath) to help them find a way to save the people of Earth-38. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner & Marc Guggenheim and teleplay by Derek Simon & Jay Faerber (#509). Original airdate 12/8/2019.
When will the show return in 2020?
There is no specific return date for the series as of yet, but the show proper will not be back until at least mid-to-late January, if no longer. The truth is that with the Super Bowl, the Grammys, and all sorts of other stuff happening on TV early next year, The CW may be patient bringing the show back. The bad news is that this could mean a long wait between normal episodes. The good news, however, is that when it returns, there may be fewer hiatuses than some other shows in the Arrowverse.
