Tuesday night’s The Resident season 3 episode 9 is going to be crazy — very crazy — for Dr. Conrad Hawkins. It could be the end of his career or even worse based on some of what transpires.
What do we know entering the episode? It’s so simple as this: A particular patient is back, accusing Conrad of torturing him, and is ready to get what he feels is his. Regardless of your feelings towards some of Conrad’s past actions, it still puts the entire hospital in a difficult position. How far do they go in order to support Conrad? There are rules that he breaks and beyond that, a wide array of different issues that land at the hospital’s door because of him.
This is going to test Conrad, but more than that, everyone around him. Depending on how much they want to defend him, there are certainly questions and/or reasons to think that they could be a little bit in danger as well. This is one of those issues that starts singular and could spread outward. It’s best to prepare for that as soon as possible.
Is there a last-second lifeline Conrad could call on? We know that he wouldn’t want it, but we do think that his father is always going to be useful in situations like this. It’s just one idea. We also have to prepare ourselves for the possibility that this story isn’t going to be wrapped up in this episode at all; it’s possible that there will be a cliffhanger-of-sorts that lasts for a week leading into the fall finale. At that point, some stories can zenith … and there will probably be another cliffhanger. That’s just the way that these shows work. (Luckily, The Resident will be back before too long in 2020 — they’re not forcing you to wait for too long.)
