Now that the first trailer for Doctor Who season 12 is out there, the folks over at BBC are confirming that you won’t have to wait too long at all to see the series on the air.

Of course, it would be nice to actually get some firm details … but beggars can’t be choosers at this point. Today, the network made it clear that the latest season (or series, to use the British term) featuring Jodie Whittaker and the rest of the cast will arrive “very early” in the new year. That could mean as early as January 1, or it may just mean the first weekend or two in 2020. No matter, the network has included the series among the wide array of other shows premiering this holiday season.

To go along with this news, the folks at the BBC also confirmed some additional scoop as to just what you can expect:

Jodie Whittaker and friends are back with a bang! Doctor Who returns very early in 2020 with an epic and thrilling new series full of scares and surprises. The action-packed series will introduce terrifying new monsters alongside the return of some familiar but not so friendly faces…

Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who continues to attract a who’s who of acting talent with an exciting group of guest artists set to join the roster for series 12 alongside returning cast members Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole.

Of course, none of this changes the fact that we wish that there was some sort of proper Christmas Special this year, given that we’ve long loved these events and felt like they were some of the best stuff that the series had to offer. They were magic, and there’s something about the imagination of Doctor Who that works really well when mixed with the wonder and whimsy of December 25. If nothing else, though, we’re pleased to know the show will be gracing our screens sooner rather than later.
