Doctor Who season 12 trailer: Who’s coming for The Doctor?

Today, BBC One and BBC America released their first look at Doctor Who season 12 — and let’s just call the end result more than a little exciting. After all, it’s clear more than ever that The Doctor is in danger, and no amount of time travel is going to be bringing that to a different conclusion.

If you watch the video below, you can get a good sense of some of what is coming, including the return of some classic monsters! We knew that there would be the Judoon at some point this coming season; beyond that, the trailer also hints at the return of the Cybermen. Are the racnoss coming back as well? This trailer does at least enough to make us raise an eyebrow or two at the idea, just as it does the mysterious threat that is coming for Jodie Whittaker’s version of The Doctor.

In the end, it’s this threat that is perhaps the most interesting, as it may be coming for her no matter what time or space she finds herself in. This could also be the arc that courses its way through a lot of the different episodes — some will most likely be standalone, but we could revisit at least one narrative at various points within the story.

Remember now that there’s no official premiere date yet for Doctor Who season 12 — but we’re hoping that it’s going to be back at some point within the first few months of 2020. That’s the only thing that’s felt reasonably clear at the moment courtesy of what the folks at the BBC are saying.
