Station 19 season 3 spoilers: Show EP breaks down changes
While we would say that there’s a similar sort of DNA to Station 19 to what we saw the first two go-arounds, there are some elements that are a little bit different. Take, for example, getting to see more of the darker side of firefighting — the stress, the physical wear and tear, and a whole lot more. This is a show that is meant to be grittier and the writers are embracing that. Speaking via Deadline, here is some of what Vernoff had to say on the subject:
“I think it’s quite a different show this year … It’s messier visually, and it’s messier emotionally than it’s ever been. It was an exciting thing for me to dive into the world of firefighters; it’s very different from the world of surgeons, and to educate myself and talk to these heroes who run towards a fire.
“I kept coming back to this image of sweat and soot and feeling like that needed to be a thing on this show, that it needed to feel grittier in all ways. The friendships are really more complicated this season. People are a little less polite this season, a little less kind, a little more competitive and dirtier, literally and metaphorically.”
We do know at least a couple of threads as to what’s coming on season 3 — take, for example, Pruitt being sick again. This was revealed in the Grey’s Anatomy midseason finale. Meanwhile, we also know that Vic is in a relationship-of-sorts with Jackson Avery. There’s no guarantee that this will last forever, but they are enjoying their time together for now. (Much like Station 19 and Vernoff’s quote, though, this could end up being messy, as well.)
