Outlander season 5 spoilers: First look at Claire’s surgery room!
The photo below comes via Entertainment Weekly, and it shows one of the most exciting parts of the new season — getting a chance to see Caitriona Balfe’s character take on this responsibility from the comfort of Fraser’s Ridge. The Big House is a larger estate that is coming for the family this season, and that allows Claire to have a full room that is just for her surgery practice. She’s easily going to be the best doctors in all of North Carolina — it helps when you’ve got 20th-century medical knowledge in the 1700’s.
Here’s some of what Caitriona Balfe had to say to the aforementioned publication about getting a chance to see Claire in this environment:
“Fans of the book will know this sort of stuff is coming up … Claire makes her own medicine. It’s been really interesting having her find ways of being able to perform certain surgeries that would have been so commonplace in the 1960s.”

As for Jamie’s struggle…
You’ve heard about this a few times already, but over the course of season 5 Sam Heughan’s character is going to be faced with a choice — either sell out Murtagh or choose to go against the British. That’s not so easy when you remember that he needed Governor Tryon to grant him the land for Fraser’s Ridge in the first place.
Here’s some of what Jamie had to say on that particular subject in the EW piece:
“Jamie’s actually in a really difficult situation this season … He’s done a deal with the British, but he’s working for two different camps. He’s trying to protect his people, and he’s trying to protect Fraser’s Ridge. To be honest, we all know Jamie’s heart. His line of thinking is more in the direction of the regulators than the Brits.”
