Doctor Who season 12 is, unfortunately, not coming back on the air until 2020. Yet, we are very much pleased to report more news on what is coming up next.

For starters, if you view the new video below, you can see the official announcement that production on the latest batch of episodes is done; meanwhile, BBC America has confirmed that these installments are going to air at some point in early 2020. That could mean January, February, or March theoretically; we’re personally just rather-sad over the lack of a Christmas Special being mentioned, given that we do consider these installments to be one of the most important heartbeats of this series.

As sad as we may be over that, we are rather pleased to share some news in regards to guest stars for the upcoming premiere! Today, the network confirmed that Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry will both be coming on board Doctor Who, and they shared individual statements from each one of them on the subject.

Lenny Henry – “It was absolutely brilliant to be welcomed into the fantastical world of Doctor Who … The nearest I have been to the TARDIS was when I played the Caribbean Doctor in the Lenny Henry Show, so as a lifelong (hiding-behind-the-sofa-type) Doctor Who fan, this is a very special moment for me.”

Stephen Fry – “Short of being picked for a British space exploration program, and I readily concede that I’m past the age where I’d be considered (if I was ever the right age for such a posting), then being in an episode of Doctor Who will certainly do as a very sweet second-place excitement.”

Meanwhile, show executive producer Chris Chibnall added the following:

“Doctor Who is coming back with a bang — with two great British icons in major roles … One of the great joys of Doctor Who is getting to work with actors from your wish list. Stephen and Lenny are two of my absolute favorite actors — and to be able to bring them into Doctor Who, in one of our biggest ever stories to kick off the new season, is an absolute thrill.”
