New Amsterdam season 2 spoilers: Is Helen Sharpe fired?
Let’s start with what we know at the moment — at the end of last night’s episode, Helen was stripped of some of her duties helping to run oncology and the hospital at large. These are things that feel like a pretty big setback insofar as her career goes, but it doesn’t mean that she’s necessarily done at New Amsterdam itself. She wasn’t fired from the hospital, as confirmed by executive producer David Schulner. Yet, at the same time he does make it clear to TVLine that Helen could still very well choose to leave after going through all of this:
She sure can — if that’s what she wants to do. But that has way bigger implications than that. The next episode, Sharpe is going to be questioning whether or not she should stay here or move on.

We know that Max is going to do everything that he can to fight for her, given that he understands how accomplished she is and he probably feels like she’s in part responsible for helping to save his life. Yet, he can’t control the decisions of the board — he has a lot of power, but those powers are limited. Expect to see him within the upcoming batch of episodes doing everything that he can in order to convince her to stay. Beyond just of course being a great doctor, Helen is also a great friend to Max. It may not be solely an emotional argument he makes to her, but we have to imagine that this could factor into the equation somewhere.
