Kurt Sutter claims Mayans MC season 2 ending was changed after firing
Let’s get now to a statement that was released by Sutter earlier today on Twitter:
I feel obliged to tell fans that after I was let go, days before it aired, without my knowledge, the S/N changed the ending of the S2 finale. Beyond the disrespect and WGA violation, the change is dishearteningly indicative of the new regime — they dumbed it down and made it safe.
Since posting the original tweet, it has since disappeared from Kurt’s timeline. He has gone on to say now that the message “has disappeared into unknown mythological ethos,” while also making another reference to FX’s new parent company Disney.

Back when Sutter was originally fired from Mayans MC, the suggestion was that an acrimonious relationship between the writer/producer and his new Disney bosses was at the center of it. He had been used to operating under different leadership, and there were some reported clashes ever since the Disney-Fox deal first transpired. Mayans MC was always an odd fit for Disney in general, given that it is such a mature show with at times extreme violence and dark subject matter. None of it, however, is gratuitous — this is just the world that many of these characters live in.
As for what the original ending for Mayans MC season 2 was, that is currently up for debate. The version that aired on FX showed a massacre-of-sorts as the Mayans looked for vengeance on El Palo and others — yet, El Palo seemingly got away and a member of SAMCRO was killed. The finale ended before we could see whose body was actually lying on the ground.
