‘New Girl’ season 2, episode 6 review: Are relationships so scary?
Leave it to “New Girl” to turn two subjects that are seemingly unrelated in haunted houses and relationships, and somehow turn them into a concept that worked very well within the span of one episode. This funny half-hour saw a couple of characters taking some big risks when it came to their love lives, and once again we saw that Winston may have very well not have existed outside of a few lines about “dating the queen of cats and dogs.” (Why can’t the guy get any love? Plus, is his relationship over?)
Basically, Jess realized this week that she actually had some real feelings for her doctor boyfriend, and Nick finally got his wish in the girl he has wanted to date for years. The problem was that neither of these worked out according to plan. As a matter of fact, when Nick realized that Sam was not really interested in the same thing, he braved his biggest fear (next to relationships) and went into the house in order to warn Jess, who was working her new temporary job inside as a zombie. These scenes were once again more evidence that Jake Johnson is the unsung hero of this show, as he freaked out, punched Jess accidentally in the face, and then got pummeled by the rest of her friends working there.
Unfortunately, Nick did not end up getting to her, and Sam ended up breaking her heart instead; meanwhile, Nick finally ended up being brave enough to actually tell his longtime love that it just wasn’t working. The only thing to top this off? Schmidt finally being nice to CeCe’s new friend Robbie … only to later more or less strip off his Lincoln costume to go as one of the characters from “Magic Mike.” CeCe may have some feelings there, but she does seem to be with a pretty nice guy.
