9-1-1 season 3 episode 8: Hen’s ambulance accident drama
Typically, accidents are used to save lives — we don’t have to tell you this, but that’s what makes a conclusion like the one we saw tonight all the more shocking. The circumstances surrounding the accident do leave a lot of questions floating around out there, and a lot of Hen’s future now is going to depend on how she answers questions and processes all of this. Aisha Hinds’ performance was heartbreaking, not that this is a surprise since she’s long been one of the strongest performers on the series.
So where does the story go from here for Hen? It’s going to be mostly about seeing how she can handle this sort of trauma. We think that there is a total misnomer out there that first responders are immune to just about every crisis that hits them because they’ve seen so many already. Yet, there’s a pretty clear difference between a crisis that you are involved in and one that you’re rushing to in order to save some lives.
No matter what the conclusion of this story is for Hen — remember that there could be legal ramifications and all sorts of other bad stuff — we don’t think that it’s meant to have some sort of speedy resolution. One way or another, it’s going to take a good bit of time to both resolve what happened and then resolve the case. We’ll just eagerly await the next episode, while also doing our best to stop crying every second of the way. Kudos to Hinds for delivering this sort of performance, and for 9-1-1 handing her this material … even if it’s not easy to see this happen to the character.
