Blindspot season 5 premiere date delayed until summer 2020, but why?
During all of the various midseason premiere date announcements by NBC today, it was also revealed that the Jaimie Alexander – Sullivan Stapleton series is not coming back until we get around to the summer of 2020. That’s definitely a bit of a bummer, especially since it means that we’re probably six months, at least from seeing the final episodes premiere.

So why in the world would NBC as a network do this? There are a few simple reasons, but the prevailing one seems to be that they want to hold firm to only programming one hour of their Friday-night schedule with any sort of original scripted programming. Instead of putting The Blacklist on in the winter, they’re shifting over instead to a Lincoln Rhyme series inspired by The Bone Collector. Meanwhile, The Blacklist will be back in the spring. There aren’t any other holes in the schedule for Blindspot, so now it seems destined to begin in either late May or early June.
So what are we expecting now when it comes to the series, at least in terms of its future? The ratings may not be spectacular in the summer, but in all honesty NBC doesn’t care all that much. They got what they wanted, at least in terms of getting the show five seasons. They’ve got a chance to air the final season in a slightly better timeslot this summer given the open spots that tend to exist there, but we’re sure that most diehard Blindspot fans would rather have it airing on Fridays in the spring than on Wednesdays, for example, in May or June.
No matter when Blindspot returns, we know that there’s a lot to resolve … including that crazy clifffhanger where lives are at stake.
