Bless This Mess, American Housewife get more episodes at ABC
ABC has long been committed to the success of their comedy series — just consider this latest news them working to get it to the next level.
Today, the network confirmed that they are giving both Bless This Mess and then also American Housewife more installments — six in total for each. We’re not surprised that the former didn’t have the greenlit for more installments from the get-go, mostly because we are talking here about a show that only premiered at the end of this past spring. There was no guarantee that it was going to be a big-time success this season, but it’s performed reasonably well after The Conners and it suits the sort of brand ABC is trying to push out there at the moment.
The situation with American Housewife, meanwhile, is a little bit more surprising. We are speaking here, after all, about a show that has performed fairly well no matter where it’s placed on the schedule … which leads us to wonder why there wasn’t a full-season order for this show in the first place. Maybe a part of this just has to do with ABC’s programming head Karey Burke being reasonably new to this position, as well as her interest in really testing some shows out to see how they performed.
In a statement, here is some of what Burke had to say on the subject of some of these extensions for both shows:
“Bless This Mess has quickly become a fan favorite, due in large part to the expert wit of co-creators Lake Bell and Elizabeth Meriwether, and our incredibly talented and charismatic cast … Sarah Dunn created something special with hit comedy American Housewife, and the Otto family continues to entertain on a level that is relatable and hilarious… These are two of the funniest, sharpest fish-out-of-water comedies on television. We’re proud of their incredible creative teams and look forward to keeping viewers laughing this season.”
In the end, we would say that both of these series already have a pretty solid chance at coming back for more new episodes, as well; we’re probably a little more optimistic for now about American Hosuewife, mostly because it’s competing for #1 on Friday nights at the moment and it has more of a long-term fan base. We should find out more news one way or another in the spring.
