The Orville season 3: Who is writing, directing premiere?

At the moment, finding details on The Orville season 3 is scarce. Bad news — it’s probably going to continue being this way for a while. This is a show that prides itself on imagination, and on finding a way to have an element of surprise every time. We’re disappointed for Fox viewers that the series is moving to Hulu, but at the same time, we’re grateful that it’ll still air in a week-to-week form. There’s something wonderful and nostalgic about diving into a new journey every single week.

Beyond that, The Orville is one of those few shows we don’t want many spoilers on in advance. We just wanna dive in and enjoy the ride.

For the time being, we’re just happy to have the smallest of details — including who is writing and directing the first episode! We cannot tell you the title, but we can say this: It’s an episode that is putting Seth MacFarlane in charge of everything. He penned this episode and, to go along with it, he is also the director. This is, for those wondering, the second straight premiere episode in which he’s pulled double-duty; he did the same thing at the start of season 2. That makes sense given that he is one of the chief creative visionaries behind the series, which allows him an opportunity to explore a very different side of himself creatively.

The biggest struggle at the moment when it comes to The Orville season 3, for now, is going to just be waiting for it. At the moment, there are no plans for the series to return until the fall of next year. That means that we may not even see a trailer until next summer — Comic-Con is a good guess for it! We understand the reason for the wait (post-production on this show isn’t easy), but that doesn’t make it any less difficult.
