The Masked Singer season 2: Two-hour spectacular coming Wednesday!

The Masked Singer

Earlier this week, there were rumors that The Masked Singer would come roaring back after hiatus with a two-hour special to make up for lost time — now, it’s been confirmed!

In a new post on Twitter (see below), the show’s official account announced that you will see every contestant this season perform on a single night. This is the first time that this has happened to date in season 2, and you can go ahead and thank the World Series for it. Had this been a case where baseball wrapped up earlier, we would’ve had a one-hour episode on Wednesday and then, presumably, another hour next week. This is just the show working to stay on-schedule.

As for who you are going to be seeing in danger on this upcoming episode, we’ll admit already that we’re nervous for the Penguin first and foremost, probably followed by the Ladybug at some point after the fact. While the Leopard’s endured a little bit of jeopardy here and there, we could see him being the phoenix of this season (ironic, given that it’s a leopard), rising from the ashes to claim his glory at the end. (Remember, the Monster was in danger at the start of season 1.)

Will the hiatus hurt The Masked Singer? If this was a show with some sort of week-to-week story, we’d make the argument that it would probably be more than fine. However, all things considered here, we’re going to assume that it will post as good of numbers as we’ve seen all season long even though it’s a competition show and some times they lose steam when there are long breaks. This show is the perfect pick-up-and-enjoy show where it doesn’t matter if you missed some previous unmaskings.

In the end, we’re just happy to see people like the Rottweiler and the Tree again, given that it feels like it’s been forever since either one of them surfaced on this show.
