From the start of this tournament, we knew that Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor — otherwise known as Supercorp from Supergirl — were going to be a formidable duo. They won the tournament last year and proved from the onset that they were every bit as strong as ever before. They won battle after battle, but still faced some fierce competitors as they neared the end of the tournament. That of course included their metaphorical final boss here in Jamie & Claire of Outlander fame who have an incredibly strong fan base as well.
This was a tight battle, and credit has to be given to fans of both pairings who fought incredibly hard! In the end, though, Supercorp is declared the champion for the second straight year with around 4% more of the total vote.
So what does this victory mean? We like to think of as a great reminder that sometimes, the most influential ‘ships can come out of unexpected places. Who knew, prior to Katie McGrath’s first appearance on the series, that Supercorp was going to be such a force to be reckoned with? Who knew that Katie and Melissa Benoist would have so many powerful scenes together? Their performances, and their chemistry, coupled with fan passion, have helped to fuel this ‘ship into what it now is.
Hopefully, this serves as another reminder to the production team that these fans are out there, and that they will continue to bring us as many big scenes with them as possible. It’s pretty clear at this point that Kara & Lena have gone through a lot together and, as the story progresses to season 5, that will continue to be the case as Lena wrestles with right and wrong. Yet, the dream here remains that Lena makes it through her frustration and pain okay and that eventually, she comes to understand Kara’s reasons and their relationship only becomes stronger after the fact.
