Outlander season 5: Sam Heughan talks filming winding down
By all accounts, it seems like around November 15 is when things are going to be said and done for filming, provided that there are no immediate reshoots that have to be done. There will almost certainly still be some work for everyone to do, but not all of it will constitute having to sit around on set while wearing a costume. One thing we can say with confidence is that the production did a good job this time of avoiding the Scottish winter — production began in April, and it will be over before the holiday seasons. (Yet, there is still some cold temperatures all over the region and it’s only going to get colder next week!)
So how long of a break will Sam, Caitriona Balfe, and the rest of the cast have before the start of season 6 filming? It’s hard to designate start-of-filming dates for new seasons when it often isn’t publicly shared … but it’s fair to say it will kick off 2020, to give the most broad answer possible. Given that the season 6 writers’ room has been open for a while, we wouldn’t be shocked if everyone returns at some point in the spring to keep the production window reasonably seamless. In doing only 12 episodes a season as opposed to the previous 13, that does help to make the turnaround a little bit easier.
