Doctor Who season 12 spoilers: Are we getting more Daleks?

As we await Doctor Who season 12 premiering on the BBC in the new year, it makes some sense that we would see some familiar villains. To be specific, it makes sense that we would see more Daleks. Why wouldn’t we? We are talking here about one of the most iconic villains within the entire franchise. They last appeared in the New Year’s Special, and we’ve certainly come to expect to see them just about every time that there is a season of the show.

When you think about it, it’s remarkable that it took as long as it did for the Daleks to turn up in Chris Chibnall’s first go-around as showrunner — it didn’t ultimately happen until we got around to the New Year’s Special.

Well, we know have a few different details that are worth noting about the Daleks in season 12. While still unconfirmed by the BBC, some social-media sleuths have uncovered some Daleks located on a bridge in Bristol.

What does it mean to bring back the Daleks at this point? We think that, mostly, it’s going to be a nod to the show’s history — while also not forgetting about some of what happened in the events of the New Year’s Special. Season 11 was largely all about Chibnall doing what he could to present a unique stamp on the show. Meanwhile, the goal for season 12 seems to be trying to find a way in order to ensure that the path moves in a more nostalgic direction.

We’re hoping that some other classic monsters are going to be emphasized in one way or another … but you may be waiting for some time in order to get some answers. Think along the lines of 2020. We know that we are many months out of getting to see some new episodes, but will it be worth it? More than likely so. This is a show with a long production/post-production cycle and if a longer wait means even more episodes, we’re all for it.

Granted, it’s going to be more of a letdown than ever if these upcoming episodes are not up to snuff.
