Last Man Standing season 8: Will there be more back-to-back episodes?
When you think about the timing of the premiere date, this airing structure makes sense for two different reasons — you’re at a time of the year when it’s cold outside (with that, a larger available pool of viewers), and you’ve also only got so much time to air a full season of presumably 22 episodes. Typically, shows have from September through May in order to do that. Last Man Standing is losing a huge chunk of that time, and will have to make up for it somehow.

So how many sets of back-to-back episodes should you expect? Let’s use another network primetime show as a model in The Blacklist. This past January, NBC premiered a 22-episode season 6 with two episodes airing in the same week — Thursday and Friday. From there, they aired new episodes on Friday and there were three occasions where there were two episodes that aired in a single night. If you include the premiere week, that’s four different weeks in which there were two episodes that aired within a span of 24 hours from each other. (To be fair, there were also a couple of weeks of repeats mixed in throughout The Blacklist’s season 6 run.)
With this, it’s fair to expect a couple more weeks beyond January 2 where Last Man Standing airs two episodes. It’s possible they may do this for the weeks of January 9 as well as January 16, given that Last Man Standing’s upcoming timeslot companion, Outmatched, is not going to be premiering until we get around to later in the month. That leaves some time for more of the Baxter family — if that is something that Fox decides that they want.
