We won’t beat around the bush too much here before handing down the sad news: The series is off the air for at least tonight. That means that you are stuck waiting to find out more about that shocking Cookie Lyon flash-forward explosion that happened on the show last week.

Let’s get one more scheduling note out of the way right now, as there is no guarantee that Empire will be back in seven days. It’s off tonight because of the World Series and, depending on what goes down with that showdown, it could be off the air for the following week, as well. For now, the tentative return date is October 29 … with tentative be the operative word.

When Empire returns to the air, what will the top priority be? A part of it could be seeing Cookie and Lucious, again, trying to jostle for control. With Lucious back in the city, he is doing everything within his power in order to ensure that he stakes his claim. That means trying to sabotage the movie about his life and manipulate all business dealings. It remains to be seen if Andre can continue to stand atop the pyramid, or if Lucious is going to come and kick him promptly off.

Meanwhile, Becky and Giselle are going to continue to be at odds at their new label. They’ve made great strides to get them closer to great success, but it’s also clear that they’ve hit one big stumbling block after the next. One of the latest ones has to do with Tiana and a philosophical difference over her political views. Is her stance on abortion going to sink the company?

We do expect in season 5 some hints towards the flash-forward stories in regards to both Lucious and Cookie, but remember that there’s still a lot of story still to come in the final season. The Empire writers likely know that there is no clear sense in rushing things along.
