Sailor Brinkley-Cook reacts to Dancing with the Stars shock elimination

Sailor Brinkley-Cook

Last night on Dancing with the Starswe bore witness to what was the first of likely many shock eliminations happening over the next few weeks. We’d like to tell you that this was a competition where the worst dancers go home first, but that doesn’t always happen. Sean Spicer may stick around for a while still despite having the lowest scores last night — and that’s even with the new voting twist for the season in mind where the judges have more power than ever.

To think, this twist was designed to keep people like Sailor Brinkley-Cook on the air for a little while longer. She had all of the makings of the classic Dancing with the Stars contestant who is eliminated far too soon — models don’t have a great history of performing well on this series, mostly because a lot of show viewers aren’t familiar with her. She had momentum for a few weeks as a last-minute injury replacement for her mother Christie Brinkley, but that momentum ran out of steam over time. It became more about a combination of her dancing, which was good, with a minimal support base compared to other stars. The idea was that on a season with the judges being more involved, she would at least get another week or two.

It was clear watching last night that Sailor didn’t expect this. (We certainly didn’t expect her in the bottom with Ally Brooke.) Sailor was emotional on the show last night, and that is something she acknowledges in a post on Instagram. It was the reaction of someone who wanted to desperately be there and was devastated to learn the news otherwise. We’ll always take that over someone who, frankly, doesn’t care one way or another.

So who else could fall victim to the ballroom chopping block before Spicer? We’re concerned for Ally, Karamo, Kel Mitchell, and maybe to some extent Kate Flannery. Hannah Brown, Lauren Alaina, and James Van Der Beek should be okay for a while — they have a combination of great dance ability and potentially-large support bases from people who tend to vote on this show with regularity.

Last night was heartbreaking. I was so not ready for this experience to finish so soon but wow am i grateful for every minute of it! I loved every sweaty moment in the rehearsal studio pushing myself past so many inhibitions and insecurities, and laughing my way through it all with my buddies @michdibs @valentin . And then doing something every Monday that i never in a million years thought i could be capable of. It was such a gift, no matter how nervous i was getting up on that stage i’d always look around and think what is my life!? How blessed am I?! This experience changed my whole outlook on life. All my life I let my fears hold me back from anything i wasn’t comfortable with. This experience made me feel unstoppable. Each day on this rollercoaster ride was a massive learning lesson, a journey in 24 hours. Thank you to everyone for showing me so much love and to all my close friends and family for always believing in me and supporting me. Thank you to the whole crew on DWTS for showing unconditional kindness always. To my cast-mates who quickly became such good friends, thank you for taking me in and being so kind and supportive.. I’ll miss you guys! But I’m so excited to see y’all light up that stage on Monday! And a massive thank you to my fearless partner and friend @valentin for everything, for believing in my strengths, for never giving up, for cracking me up every day (i think this photo of us in the studio sums it up) I’ll sincerely miss dancing by your side. But i know it won’t be the last time. I am so grateful to have taken this chance, befriended some really amazing people, had some bucket list experiences and have these stories to tell forever. And i’ll never stop dancing!!!! Feeling so filled with love and gratitude! Thank you!!!
