Arrow spin-off work officially underway; questions remain

We know at the moment that there is an Arrow spin-off in the works over at Fox. Yet, it’s not like there is a flurry of details out there about it! We know that it stars Katherine McNamara, Juliana Harkavy, and Katie Cassidy … but the network is keeping most of the finer details under wraps. Rumor has it that Mia Smoak could be the new Green Arrow but that’s it. We’ve got questions on time periods and all sorts of other things … but more will start to be clear once we get a little bit further into the season.

What we can say for now is this — work is underway on the pilot! That was made clear in a new post on Twitter from Juliana, and we imagine this means a lot of strenuous days are coming up.

If there is one big question that we’re still left to wonder, though, it’s this — can The CW really continue forward with so many superhero shows? Think about this way — they’ve got Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. They’ve got six now, and if they renew their other shows plus add a spin-off, that will keep six on the schedule. That’s a lot to try and maintain and over time, we’d imagine another couple falling by the wayside.

To us, the biggest point of curiosity with this is the simple mystery of it all. With most of the other series that exist out there, we’ve come to know a certain amount about what they are in advance and what they’re meant to look like. This is easily the most mysterious pilot for the network since Legends of Tomorrow — typically, these shows take their cues more so from the comics, and this could be somewhat of a hodgepodge when the dust ultimately settles.

We should know by the time April or May rolls around as to whether or not this is ordered to series … but The CW could surprise us and lift the veil a little early.
