Arrow season 8 episode 2 promo: What remains after Earth-2

Arrow

Arrow season 8 episode 2 is going to be airing on The CW next week and at the center of it seems to be one simple subject. What happens now with the Arrowverse now that Earth-2 is completely destroyed?

At the end of Tuesday night’s premiere episode, we got a good sense of just how high the stakes are moving forward — after all, Earth-2 as we know it is gone. Completely off the map. This was a huge storytelling risk for the writers to take, but it’s the sort of thing that they felt they needed to do to frame the story properly.

Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, executive producer Beth Schwartz spelled out what some of the decision-making was when it comes to eradicating a whole world from the Multiverse:

“When we started breaking the season as a whole, because we don’t have that many episodes, we knew that we wanted to start big, and we wanted to introduce the upcoming Crisis immediately … Crisis is starting earlier than we thought.”

The ramifications for this are going to be playing a huge role for the remainder of this season … especially for Laurel. This certainly makes the most sense for her to freak out. While she’s been gone from Earth-2 for a while, this was her home. She had a childhood and memories and experiences there. This is going to be a hard pill to swallow and, when the dust settles, there are going to be a lot of different ones to come this season.

Just think, for example, about all of the returning characters — or, everything that is going to be done still to set up the events of Crisis. A lot of the final season is going to be spent building up the big crossover, but there will still be stories on Arrow on the other side of that, as well. Oliver Queen’s legacy won’t just be about some other superheroes. It’s about a vigilante who wanted to just save his city … and there are questions now about whether or not he can be responsible for saving the entire multiverse.
