On set with Chicago Fire season 8: A big slamigan story coming

Joe Minoso

Chicago Fire season 8 is on the other side of the crossover event and with that, there are all sorts of interesting possibilities on where the story goes next. There will be some serious events coming — think more dangerous crises, as well as highs and lows for all of the different relationships.

As for Joe Cruz, we know that he is dealing with a lot following the death of his best friend Otis — but there will be more to his story beyond just this and also the state of his relationship with Chloe. Things don’t look great at the moment, but isn’t there still some hope for the future? Speaking to CarterMatt while at One Chicago Day, Joe Minoso mentioned specifically that his handy device the slamigan is going to have an important plot of its own coming up — one where he may have a shot at getting it in front of big-time buyers:

“Absolutely! It is the tool that I carry with me on every incident, and we’re coming up with new and interesting ways to use it, how to develop it even more.

“There’s a really great episode coming up where Cruz goes to a convention to try and sell the slamigan … Let’s just say that things get a little bit hairy.”

Why can’t anything ever be simple for Cruz? Well, we figure that most entrepreneurs are probably wondering the same thing about their own path to success. (Too bad Shark Tank is on another network, since this would be a hilarious crossover.)

The slamigan, no matter how important a role it has in Cruz’s financial future, is going to remain an integral part of his identity. We’ve come to associate it with him over the past few years, and as a symbol of the ingenuity that a lot of firefighters can have. It’s something that he has found to make his own life and work easier, and it could do the same for some other firefighters, as well.

In the end, we foresee the slamigan storyline playing out for a while — even if there are some bumps in the road coming up, there may be a chance for it to shine again later.
