The Orville season 3: Work is underway for the cast!

Orville

Within this piece about The Orville season 3, we come bearing both good and bad news … but where should we start?

Okay, let’s go ahead and start with the bad — you’re not going to be seeing new episodes for Seth MacFarlane and the rest of the cast for roughly another year. The show is moving over to Hulu, and because of its lengthy post-production window it takes a little longer for this show to come together than your standard scripted series. (It wasn’t renewed, mind you, until this past spring — since that point, the writers have been getting together scripted.)

Now, let’s move over to the good news — work on season 3 for the cast is now officially underway! The first table read has already transpired, and you also have the Twitter post below via Scott Grimes to confirm that the show is actively in production. That means of course more space adventures for Grimes’ Gordon alongside Ed and the rest of the crew — and with the way that season 2 ended, almost anything is still possible.

As we prepare for a new generation of The Orville on a new streaming service, we’re left looking at what it is in so many ways a blank canvas. There are opportunities aplenty for the show to try and experience new things, whether it be new alien civilizations or introspective stories more about the characters. While there is a lot of adventure and exploration within this world, we do think that the ultimate goal of The Orville was to make a show about the people as opposed to just big battles or complicated political alliances in space. These are relatable characters who just so happen to live in a very not-so-relatable world.

No matter what lies beyond the horizon, we’re excited to see it — we just have to be prepared for the most extreme amount of patience imaginable.
