Every couple of years on NCIS, we get an installment that is largely about a cause — and that is the case here. Following some murders of homeless veterans — particularly messed-up ones, in fact — NCIS had to figure out how to both resolve this case while also caring for some of the people involved. To make matters more complicated, the press had got a hold on this story.
Ultimately, the press getting a hold of the case did lead to veterans getting more support from Congress … but that didn’t lead to an answer coming out on the case. Instead, what the NCIS team had to figure out was who would be motivated to kill these people. They weren’t a serial killer; instead, they were someone who was desperate in order to make a penny off of everyone. This led them to a mobile-care unit that, following the passage of new rules, would make so much more money. The guy helping to run this company took advantage of killing vets to line his own pockets further.
For those of you who like watching this show from a more comedic standpoint, we come celebrating the arrival of Evidence Guy — someone who watched over McGee, Bishop, and Torres while they were punished over what happened with Ziva by Vance. There was a lot of silly stuff that transpired within this hour there, especially when it comes to them having to wear those red jumpsuits. (Can we have more time with the Evidence Guy? Isn’t that a part of what made this storyline great?)
CarterMatt Verdict
If you wanted more news on Ziva, or something that would matter more on NCIS for weeks down the line, you didn’t get any of them here. “Someone Else’s Shoes” was more of an episode geared for the purpose of spreading a larger message and getting people aware of real problems in the world.
Also, there was a lovely dedication to a Cody James Reedy at the end of the installment. We have yet to be able to identify who he is, but we hope that this episode offers those who care about him a moment to reflect and remember.
