NCIS season 17: What’s the best possible Cote de Pablo return date?
Here is some of what we know at the moment — unless the cast and crew are keeping it a secret, Cote has not been back on set as of yet as Ziva David. Meanwhile, the story was left open enough following “Into the Light” that there are a lot of different ways in which Cote could be written into things moving forward. It’s not just a matter of it being the same identical story as last time.

Given where NCIS is in filming right now, and also given how CBS may choose to air some remaining episodes this season, why not engage in a fun little exercise today? If you look below, you can view a few different possibilities for what we’d consider to be fun times in which to bring the character back into this world again.
November 26 – Given where the show is right now in production, it’s hard to imagine her next appearance coming before this — and when you think about it, this may even be a little bit too early. We’re also not altogether sure that NCIS would want to air a new episode two days before Thanksgiving, given that this is a time where ratings can be a little bit dodgy for a number of different shows.
December 3 – Meanwhile, what we’ve got here is an instance of NCIS giving a chance to tell Cote’s next story potentially before the final episode of the year — that one does tend to be set around the holidays, so for the sake of story, it may be best to separate the two. You get some Ziva here, a holiday special, and then also more Ziva at some point in the new year. This could end up being the ideal scenario so that fans get a little bit of everything that they want from the show.
December 10 – Could NCIS combine Ziva and a holiday episode into a single one? Maybe, but it feels like if they were to do that, it would be about bringing Ziva’s family back together — basically, the perfect theme for the holiday season. Our concern with this is that with this, you’d be giving us a possible Tony/Ziva reunion in episode 3, when cote presumably has one more appearance to make. We feel like CBS will want to save that for her final appearance, since that keeps the story momentum going.
Is it possible that the final episode of NCIS in 2019 actually airs on December 17, giving there one more opportunity for a Ziva appearance? Sure, but we never want to bank on NCIS scheduling an episode that close to the holidays.
