The Good Doctor season 3 episode 5 spoilers: Shaun’s first surgery

As we prepare ourselves for The Good Doctor season 3 episode 5, get set for a big milestone for Dr. Shaun Murphy. After all, he’s preparing himself for his first surgery! It’s something that he has been preparing for almost his entire medical career and it’s the sort of thing that could either make or break his reputation. It could make him into a hero, give him a chance to build his resume further, and set the stage for whatever could be coming up next for him in the years down the road.

Yet, it’s fair to say that Shaun is not going to be the only character within this spotlight. After all, Claire is going to still find herself mourning what happened to her mother in this installment. Think back to the events of last night’s episode, where we learned that the character died in a drunk-driving accident. She succumbed to some of her demons, and we have a good feeling that the Claire character is going to continue to struggle with her own sense of grief. It’s hard for a doctor to let her guard down, but she may be forced to eventually to get past this tragedy. The major question that we’re set to wonder is simply this — who could help her feel better?

Dr. Shaun Murphy has been assigned his first surgery by Dr. Audrey Lim. However, Dr. Marcus Andrews questions whether he is really ready. Meanwhile as Dr. Claire Brown continues to avoid her complicated emotions about her mother, she and Dr. Morgan Reznick have a patient whose diagnosis has them doubting his story.

Could this be an episode where Morgan and Claire bond further? That’s one possibility, though she could find a way to secure some healing through some alternate sources as well. This could be a powerful story for her, but it’s probably not going to be the end of whatever she is going through insofar as grief goes.
