Black Lightning season 3 episode 2 preview: The quest to escape

When Black Lightning season 3 episode 2 airs on The CW in one week’s time, you will see the Pierce family in a number of different places. Jefferson is going to find himself in a most unfortunate spot, separated from much of what he holds dear. Yet, Freeland does still have its protectors, but with the overreach and the corruption hitting the city, you have to wonder this — how much can Anissa and Jennifer really do? What more danger is going to befall this season?

Through the premiere, we had a chance to bear witness to what was a pretty exceptional episode that was about heroism, but also about real struggles that any characters could still be dealing with today. That’s what made a lot of it rather great, as it marked an opportunity to see a combination of a couple of different things all rolled into one. There was a lot of intense stuff in this episode as the government’s role in society is being put to the test; Freeland needs a savior as much as ever before, but what does that savior look like?

SEPARATED – With Freeland under full-blown occupation, the Pierce family gets pulled in different directions. Jefferson (Cress Williams) and Lynn (Christine Adams) find themselves at odds with each other. Meanwhile, Anissa (Nafessa Williams) rebels as Blackbird while Jennifer (China Anne McClaim) feels powerless despite having powers. Marvin Jones III, Jordan Calloway and Damon Gupton also star. Oz Scott directed the episode written by Charles Holland (#302). Original airdate 10/14/2019.

There is still a good bit more to learn in terms of both this season and what Black Lightning is up against. Within this episode, you may have an opportunity to explore all of that. We know that for us, we’re excited to be able to dive into some of these stories and see how the Pierce family navigates this different, dangerous new threat — it’s one that goes so much deeper than your standard Big Bad, and it’s also going to be so much more difficult to topple.
